Here are the terms and conditions which apply to Lonely Planet's 'India Unexplored' initiative. Please read this carefully, as it contains important stuff that you should know.

Who's running the show?

The promoter is Lonely Planet India Pvt Ltd ('Lonely Planet') of 302, DLF City Court, Sikandarpur, Gurgaon, 122002.

By entering, these conditions will become applicable to your entry. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be published on the website (unexplored.lonelyplanet.in) subject to regulatory approval. You should check these conditions of entry regularly.

These conditions of entry are governed by the laws of India.

Who can enter?

India Unexplored is open only to legal residents of India who are 18 years or above. You can't enter India Unexplored if you (or your immediate family including parents, children, siblings, partner and grandparents, or housemates) are directors, management, employees, officers or contractors of Lonely Planet, or its subsidiaries or parent or affiliated companies.

Also, you cannot enter India Unexplored if you are a business or other sort of enterprise. It is for individuals only.

By participating in India Unexplored, you warrant that:

  • you are eligible to enter India Unexplored;
  • your entry is your own work and has not been previously licensed or published;
  • your entry does not contain content which is harmful to minors, or is harmful, harassing, blasphemous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, libellous, invasive of another's privacy, or is racially, ethnically objectionable, disparaging or encourages money laundering or gambling, or is otherwise unlawful in any manner whatsoever; and
  • your entry does not contain any virus, bug or technical defect that would corrupt or otherwise affect the security, integrity or operation of the Website or any Lonely Planet websites or databases.

How do I play?

You don't have to buy anything to enter, although if you have a copy of a relevant Lonely Planet travel guide, this will assist you to discover India Unexplored. You must submit a discovery by following the process mentioned below. You can submit as many discoveries (as defined below) as you like.

Your entry is accepted when Lonely Planet receives it. Incomplete and invalid entries will not be accepted. If your entry gets lost in cyberspace or doesn't arrive for any other reason, that's not Lonely Planet's fault.

How do I register and submit a discovery?

  1. Go to unexplored.lonelyplanet.in and register by completing the online registration form, including entering your name, email and contact number. Your full name will be displayed with your profile on the webpage as part of the competition, but all other information will not be viewable.
  2. Choose a discovery that you have made in India in relation to one of our four special themes: 'See', 'Do', 'Eat' and 'Shop' (more information under 'Special Themes' below) ('discovery'). Submit your discovery by creating and uploading either:
    • a written description of your discovery of up to 300 words; and/or
    • an image you have taken of your discovery; and/or
    • a link to a video you have made of your discovery.
    Or a combination of all three!

    Your discovery will need to already be listed on Google Maps to be eligible for entry. You must be the creator of your entry and must not submit material which has been created by someone else.

  3. Lonely Planet will only accept entries that describe a discovery that is unique to India and comply with all of these Terms and Conditions and applicable laws.
  4. Discoveries that are deemed by Lonely Planet to be eligible will be published on the website.

Any photos uploaded must meet the following specifications:

  1. You must have taken the photograph yourself. Photos must be in PNG, JPEG format (JPG or JPEG) with a maximum file size of 1 MB per photo.
  2. A user can share maximum 5 photos per discovery.
  3. Photos must not have been manipulated (apart from cropping and resizing).
  4. Photos must comply with all laws and the Terms of Use applying to Lonely Planet India's website, which are available at http://www.lonelyplanet.in/legal/website-terms .

Any videos uploaded must meet the following specifications:

  1. You must have created the video yourself. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and a link to the video on YouTube or Vimeo included in your submission.
  2. Videos must be no longer than 2 minutes.
  3. A user can submit a maximum 5 videos per discovery.
  4. 4. Videos must comply with YouTube and Vimeo's terms of use as well as Lonely Planet India's website Terms of Use, which are available at http://www.lonelyplanet.in/legal/website-terms .

What are Special Themes?

You are invited to share discoveries under the four special themes mentioned below:

  1. See - The top three entries listing the best undiscovered sights to see within India will receive a special theme prize. The entries must be based on points of interest such as monuments, forts, temples or gardens.
  2. Do - The top three entries listing the best undiscovered activities and adventures to do within India will receive a special theme prize.
  3. Eat - The top three entries listing the best undiscovered food or places to eat within India will receive a special theme prize.
  4. Shop - The top three entries listing the best undiscovered places to shop within India will receive a special theme prize.

Lonely Planet reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who has engaged in unlawful or improper conduct that is designed to jeopardize fair conduct or is generally damaging to the reputation of Lonely Planet, or has otherwise breached these conditions of entry (as determined in Lonely Planet's sole discretion).

Lonely Planet can cancel or modify India Unexplored if there are compelling technical or administrative reasons which we cannot control. If that happens, Lonely Planet will select the winner/winners from all eligible entries received at that time.

What happens to my entry?

You agree that all of your entry is your own work. On submission, your entry becomes the property of Lonely Planet. You give Lonely Planet a worldwide, irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish, adapt, communicate and broadcast all or part of it in any form and media, in relation to the India Unexplored promotion. You also consent to us editing, re-using, storing, reproducing and communicating your entry in any medium. Generally, we will attribute you as the author where possible, but in some circumstances, we may decide not to. You agree that winners and their entries may be showcased in marketing and promotional campaigns for Lonely Planet India and that there will be no further remuneration whatsoever for any such use.

Lonely Planet will only use the personal information contained in your entry (but if you've told Lonely Planet that you want to receive stuff from us and/or our promotional partners, we'll use your personal information for that too). We will keep your personal information in accordance with Lonely Planet's privacy policy at http://www.lonelyplanet.in/legal.
