Kohoj is a hill fort in the Thane district of Maharashtra. It is about 105 kilometers from Mumbai the base village is vagothe. There are regular buses from Thane to wada, from where it is possible to get another bus to vagothe. The trek is easy and it takes about two and a half to three hours to reach the plateau. From the plateau, the highest point on the fort is about half an hour. This fort is ideal for camping and bonfires. There are two potable water cisterns so water for cooking and cleaning is not a problem. It is really very windy on the plateau and gets cold in the night. Winters are the best time to visit this fort when the skies are very clear and one can just lie down and watch the stars till dawn. It gets very cold in the night so some warm clothes are a must. The way down is easy and takes only two hours. There is a big lake at the base of the fort, so one can take a dip and relax for a while, before the journey back home.
