Rajgad â?? or the â??Kingâ??s Fortâ?? is truly a royal hill fort. This fort was the capital of the Maratha empire during Shivajiâ??s rule. The fort is about 201 kilometers away from Mumbai and Pune is the closest city. There are several routes to this trek. The easiest of all the routes is through the Pali village. The trek from this route takes about two to three hours. This fort is huge and it takes two days to see several spots on the fort. There is a temple, dedicated to Shivajiâ??s mother - Jijabai, where several trekkers stay for the night but one can also camp outside the temple. Locals prepare hot meals but it is also possible to cook meals as firewood is also sold. Camping is also possible. Of the several View points, Balle Killa, the highest pint of this fort offers a complete view of the surrounding areas. The trek down is easy and takes about two hours. The Rajgad trek can be combined with the Torna fort. The best time to visit this fort is during the winters from Early December to February.
