Gurudongmar Lake, North Sikkim, SK
Lake Gurudongmar is on of the highest lake in the world, located at altitude of 17,100m above sea level.This fresh-water lake is located northeast of the Kangchenjunga range in a high plateau area connected with the Tibetan Plateau. Located towards North Sikkim and approximate 5km from China border, it is accessible via Lachen, a small but very panoramic village at the foothills of Himalayan range. The journey towards the lake takes around 5-6hrs. The lake is located in middle of a cold desert with minimum or no vegetation at all. Due to the high altitude one can feel the shortness of breadth while exploring the place. Also Indian army closes the pass which leads to this lake after 11am everyday due to the harsh an extreme weather. Once you are at the place the sereneness and the calm atmosphere engulfs you. The water is as still as it can get with a single ripple in it. The beauty of this place is something which cannot be expressed it words and one have to explore the place to understands it true value in this planet.
