The Ovalekar wadi butterfly garden is in the Ovale village,Thane district and is about 30 kilometers from Mumbai. This butterfly garden is run by Mr. Ovalekar and his friends. The garden is open only on Sundays from 8:00 am till 12 noon. There is a small entry fee and breakfast is also provided at an additional cost. The guided tour starts with Mr. Ovalekar explaining the life cycle of a butterfly, the four different stages ( Eggs, Caterpillar, Pupa and butterfly), and he also shows pictures and live samples. He goes on with the guided tour to explain different kinds of butterflies with their names, the kind of food they like (Some butterflies like nectar from flowers , while some like to suck alcohol from rotten fruits) and their feeding time. The park has been very well maintained and butterflies are not caged (unlike some butterfly parks in Singapore and Penang, Malaysia). Several Plants have been planted to attract butterflies. Workshops are conducted for both children and adults. It is really worth mentioning that Mr. Ovalekar has converted his ancestral home into a beautiful butterfly park.
