Ratangad is a beautiful hill fort in Maharashtra. The base village is ratanwadi which is about 180 kilometers from Mumbai. One can take a local to Kasara and get a bus or local transport (Jeep) to Bhandardara (ratanwadi). Ratanwadi has a very beautiful temple called Amruteshwar Mandir. This temple is considered to be very old. The Ratangad trek can be considered to range from fairly easy in some patches to medium difficult in some areas. The trek to the top takes about three hours. There are several sights to see once you are up there, like Katrabai range, Agni-baan pinnacle, a nedhe (a natural orifice) and the origin of the Pravara River. One can go down the same way or take the route that goes to Samrad village, which is the base village for going down to Shahpur (near asangaon) through Sandhan Valley. Ratangad has several spots for camping .The route through Sandhan valley is beautiful and the trek requires good fitness levels. One can take a local train to Mumbai from Asangaon.
