Stok Kangri trek: At 6123 meters, Stok Kangri is the highest peak in the Stok Range in India. Many people go to Ladakh to see Pangong Lake and khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world at 5602 meters from where they go to the beautiful Nubra Valley. Very few even know about Stok Kangri. Altitude mountain sickness is big issue on this trek as the trail gains altitude very rapidly. To overcome AMS, One must acclimatize in Leh for a couple of days before going to the trek, drink plenty of water and prepare for the trek at least two months in advance. The level of difficulty ranges to medium to difficult on the last day. The summit itself is done in the night. The best time to visit is in July and August when the skies are clear but the weather does change suddenly from bright clear sunny skies to a blizzard. The views are breathtaking. One has to cross glaciers and sometimes hop or jump over small crevasses We made sure that we take back our trash because it is not simply about reaching the summit but about enjoying the journey and showing respect to the mountains.
