Korlai Beach and Fort - The ride to Korlai beach and fort is a beautiful one, especially during or after the Monsoons. Korlai is about 110 kilometers from Mumbai and 25 kilometers from Alibag, making it a wonderful spot a day trip. Alibag is very popular with people from Mumbai who look for a weekend getaway. However, not many know about the Korlai beach and Fort. There is a light house at the entrance where we met an engineer who guided us on a little tour of the lighthouse. The trek to the fort itself is not really difficult but has a few steep steps initially. The fort was built by the Portuguese way back in 1521. It is also called also called Morro or Castle Curlew. One can reach the top in about 15 to 20 minutes. The fort and the church are in ruins. However, it is still worth exploring. The fort was taken over by the Maratha's in the eighteenth century and later on by the British. We spent about 2 to 3 hours exploring the fort and the beach. It was really worth visiting korlai for a day than going to a crowded Alibag.
